Government and Gen-Z protesters set to sign agreement; No action to be taken against demonstrators

KATHMANDU: After nearly three months of negotiations, the interim government led by Sushila Karki and the Gen-Z protest groups are preparing to sign an agreement.

Since early Wednesday morning, officials from the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, members of the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, and leaders of the Gen-Z movement held discussions to finalize the points of the deal.

According to Uparjung Rai, Koshi Province Coordinator of the Council of Gen-Z, both sides have reached consensus on all agenda points, paving the way for the signing.

“We have agreed on our demands as well as the government’s points. We are now preparing to sign the agreement shortly,” Rai told Khabarhub. “The government has agreed not to take any retaliatory action against the protesters. Some issues will be addressed through a commission formed to amend the constitution.”

He added that both sides have also reached consensus on prohibiting political party-based power-sharing and on conducting investigations into corruption.

Representatives of martyr families, the Council of Gen-Z, the Gen-Z Movement Alliance, and Gen-Z Front leaders are expected to be present for the signing.
