Back at NEA, Shakya pledges immediate action on key projects

KATHMANDU: Hitendra Dev Shakya has officially assumed his duties as the Managing Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) from Wednesday.

Shakya returned to the post following a Supreme Court ruling that reinstated him. He reached the NEA office at Ratnapark to take charge of his responsibilities.

During the occasion, Managing Director Shakya clarified that the priorities set by the authority will remain unchanged. He emphasized the prompt implementation of government plans to advance several major hydropower projects.

Highlighting current challenges, Shakya said the growing electricity demand requires facilitating industrial and business consumers while ensuring timely transmission and distribution of power generated by the private sector.

He also pledged to lead the authority with his full experience and expertise. Expressing gratitude to the court for delivering justice in his favor, Shakya recalled that he had been removed from the position following the appointment of Kulman Ghising as Energy Minister after the post-Gen-Z movement government took office. Manoj Silwal was then appointed as NEA Managing Director, prompting Shakya to challenge the decision in court.
