President Paudel calls for collective effort to make elections human rights-friendly

KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Paudel has urged everyone to contribute to making the upcoming House of Representatives election on March 5, 2026 human rights-friendly and to strengthen Nepal’s democratic system.

Speaking on the occasion of the 77th International Human Rights Day, he emphasized that the political situation following the recent youth movement is being closely observed both nationally and internationally.

President Paudel highlighted that the government, political parties, civil society, youth activists, and citizens must all play a positive, coordinating role to stabilize the current situation. He stressed that Nepal should take proactive steps to fully implement the fundamental rights guaranteed by the Constitution, aligning with global efforts to build just and equitable societies.

“The basis of human life is human rights. These inalienable rights, reflected in the Constitution and inspired by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, strengthen freedom, equality, and justice,” he said.

Noting Nepal’s commitment to international human rights treaties, he urged federal, provincial, and local governments, as well as social organizations, media, and the private sector, to actively ensure the protection and realization of the rights, freedoms, and justice of vulnerable and at-risk groups.

President Paudel also underscored the importance of economic, social, and cultural rights in promoting individual freedom and sustaining democratic governance.
