KATHMANDU: The Department of Transport Management (DoTM) has resumed written and trial examinations for driving licenses starting today, nearly two months after they were halted due to damage caused during the Gen-Z movement protests in September.
In the first phase, the department has restarted services from four offices in the Kathmandu Valley. “We resumed written and trial exams at Radhe Radhe and Sanobharyang from Sunday and have now added Chabahil and Ekantakuna offices,” said Keshav Khatiwada, Director of Information and Technology at the DoTM.
He added that the department has also begun printing licenses at the Security Printing Center in Panauti from Friday. “The center printed 500 test licenses in the first phase, which will be sent to the department today after quality verification,” Khatriwada informed.
According to him, about 40 percent of the department’s equipment damaged during the Gen-Z protests remain functional. However, the final report determining which materials can be reused is yet to be received.
Examinations had been postponed after the Electronic Driving License and Vehicle Registration System went offline during the Gen-Z protests on September 8 and 9.
The written test, originally scheduled for September 10, was conducted at 7 a.m. today, while the trial exams for A, B, and K categories began at 10 a.m.
Applicants who were unable to contact their respective offices earlier can now reach out to include their names for the rescheduled exams. The department said a new notice for online registration and category upgrades will be published later.
