Tightened movement at Nepal–India border points in Sudurpaschim

SUDURPASCHIM: Cross-border movement has been tightened at major checkpoints in Sudurpaschim Province following Nepal’s recent unrest.

According to Trinagar Police Post, India’s Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) has restricted entry to Indian citizens carrying Aadhaar cards only. Nepali citizens entering from India, however, are not barred.

At the Gaddachauki checkpoint in Kanchanpur, locals reported stricter checks. “Those returning to Nepal are allowed, and those traveling to India are also permitted, except in certain cases,” said local resident Pushkar Bhatt. Patients seeking medical treatment are being allowed to cross into India.

On Tuesday, several inmates who escaped from Kanchanpur prison during protests were stopped at the border while attempting to flee into India.
