Gen-Z youth reject Army Chief’s proposal to meet RSP and Durga Prasai

KATHMANDU: During ongoing Gen-Z protests, some youth leaders at the forefront revealed that Army Chief General Ashok Raj Sigdel had suggested they hold talks with the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and political figure Durga Prasai.

Defense representative Raksha Bam, who met with General Sigdel on Wednesday, disclosed that the proposal was made in a discussion arranged by the Army Chief. She said that she and other representatives were later called to meet President Ram Chandra Paudel, during which the same suggestion was reiterated.

Bam stated that the Gen-Z group rejected the proposal, leaving the Army headquarters to prepare for direct discussions with the protestors.

“The Army Chief suggested we meet RSP and Durga Prasai, considering them as stakeholders. But given the sacrifices and revolutionary changes achieved during the Gen-Z movement, we declined the proposal and left the Army headquarters to engage directly with the protest group,” she said.

The group indicated that further dialogue with Gen-Z demonstrators is now being planned.
