Police open fire to contain riot at Morang prison



KATHMANDU: Police opened fire after a mob attempted to storm Morang Prison, which houses more than 1,100 inmates.

The group, chanting slogans to release prisoners, attacked the facility. Police responded with 15 rounds of warning shots. An army unit has also been deployed to secure the area.

Hearing the commotion outside, inmates inside the prison also tried to escape. However, the mob dispersed after the police opened fire.
