HAN calls for tourist assistance as unrest disrupts travel in Nepal

KATHMANDU: The Hotel Association Nepal (HAN) has called on authorities and stakeholders to facilitate tourist movements and create a tourism-friendly environment amid the ongoing unrest.

In a statement released on Thursday, HAN highlighted that nationwide curfews and the closure of Tribhuvan International Airport have disrupted travel plans for domestic and international visitors. The association emphasized that prompt and coordinated management of tourist movements is directly linked to Nepal’s image and the future of its tourism sector.

HAN said it is working with the Nepal Tourism Board and the Nepali Army to ensure proper management and assistance for tourists stranded in different parts of the country. Tourists requiring hotel accommodation have been advised to contact HAN’s hotline at 9851031495.

The association also noted that with the upcoming festive season and the start of the tourist season, the hospitality sector remains active in ensuring the safety and convenience of visitors. Prompt action and coordination by all relevant parties could help reduce the surge of cancellations caused by the current instability.

HAN condemned the recent arson attacks on private and public properties, calling the destruction a loss of national assets. The association urged everyone to prevent further damage, highlighting that rebuilding requires scarce national resources.

Finally, HAN offered prayers for the souls of young protesters who lost their lives, wished speedy recovery for the injured, and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining safety and hospitality standards despite the crisis.
