Anti-government agitation targets media houses in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: Anti-government protesters have targeted major media houses in the capital, with Kantipur Publications suffering significant damage after its building in Thapathali was set on fire on Wednesday.

According to journalists working at Kantipur, the fire destroyed parts of the first, eighth, and ninth floors of the building. The server room located on the seventh floor was also damaged, forcing the publisher’s online portal, eKantipur, offline. The canteen on the upper floor was completely gutted.

Although the damage to property was severe, no human casualties were reported, as staff and journalists had evacuated the premises before the attack.

The wave of anger also spread to other outlets. Protesters vandalized the offices of Annapurna Post and attacked ThahaKhabar.com’s newsroom. Meanwhile, Kantipur TV and Radio Kantipur’s studios in Tinkune were also attacked.
