Joining the government not our priority: Prachanda

CHITWAN: Maoist Center Chairman and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said that joining the government is not currently on his party’s agenda.

Speaking to journalists in Chitwan on Wednesday, Dahal clarified that while the Maoist Centre continues to criticize the government’s performance, it does not mean the party is seeking to enter the ruling coalition.

“This government is not functioning effectively. Criticizing its shortcomings should not be misunderstood as a desire to join it,” he said. “We are not interested in that issue.”

Chairman Dahal also informed that the Maoist Centre will soon relaunch a grassroots campaign that had been on hold. Beginning in the first week of September, the party plans to re-engage with the public, followed by a central committee meeting to chart a new political agenda. “Our focus right now is not on power, but on listening to the people and addressing their concerns,” he added.

He said the recent standing committee meeting had helped strengthen party unity, and the decisions made during the meeting would be implemented effectively.

In a separate context, Dahal also shared that he had inspected the under-construction Gautam Buddha International Cricket Stadium and stressed the need to accelerate work on the project.
