NA vice chair emphasizes collective responsibility of protecting cultural heritage

KATHMANDU: Vice-chairperson of the National Assembly (NA), Bimala Ghimire, has emphasized the collective responsibility of protecting Nepal’s cultural heritage and preserving the spirit of festivals like Gaijatra.

Extending her best wishes to all Nepalis at home and abroad on the occasion of Gaijatra—a cultural festival especially observed by the Newar community—Ghimire described Nepal as a beautiful country rich in ethnic, cultural, linguistic, and religious diversity.

She expressed hope that the Gaijatra festival would inspire everyone to nurture positivity, uphold religious tolerance, and always follow the path of truth and righteousness.

Ghimire also noted that while humor and satire expressed during Gaijatra celebrations serve to highlight social and political issues, such expressions should not undermine national sovereignty, harm personal dignity, or promote ethnic or gender-based discrimination.
