Ministry of Agriculture working to ensure smooth supply of chemical fertilizers



KATHMANDU; The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development has assured that it is actively working to ensure the smooth supply and distribution of chemical fertilizers, with a focus on preventing shortages and complaints during the farming season.

Currently, 28,824 metric tons of chemical fertilizers are in stock, while an additional 140,504 metric tons are in transit. The available stock is being distributed through Salt Trading Corporation and Agriculture Inputs Company Limited, with necessary arrangements already in place.

The Ministry has emphasized its commitment to managing fertilizer distribution effectively during the peak agricultural period. According to available data, Agriculture Inputs Company Limited has 29,111 metric tons of fertilizers in stock—comprising 16,539 metric tons of urea, 7,653 metric tons of DAP, and 4,915 metric tons of potash.

Likewise, Salt Trading Corporation has 13,712 metric tons in stock, including 10,984 metric tons of urea, 942 metric tons of DAP, and 1,785 metric tons of potash.

The government has set a target of managing 600,000 metric tons of fertilizers for the current fiscal year, with a budget allocation of Rs 28.82 billion. So far, tenders have been called for the procurement of 300,000 metric tons.

Additionally, 140,504 metric tons of fertilizers are currently in transit—78,349 metric tons for Agriculture Inputs Company and 62,154 metric tons for Salt Trading Corporation.

A carryover stock of 30,983 metric tons from the previous fiscal year is also available, which includes 19,923 metric tons of urea, 10,448 metric tons of DAP, and 611 metric tons of potash.

Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development Ramnath Adhikari stated that the government is making necessary efforts to ensure that farmers have easy access to chemical fertilizers across the country.
