Red alert issued as Saptakoshi water flow hits 243,000 cusecs



SUNSARI: The water flow in the Saptakoshi River has risen significantly following continuous rainfall over the past few days.

According to Nirmal Kumar Thapa, Superintendent at the Armed Police Force Nepal No. 4 Headquarters, the water discharge at the Koshi Barrage reached 243,000 cusecs per second as of 9:00 PM on Saturday. In response, 28 of the 56 gates at the Koshi Barrage have been opened.

The control room reported that the red warning light has been activated, as water flow exceeding 150,000 cusecs per second is considered dangerous.

Superintendent Thapa confirmed that, so far, there has been no damage to the eastern embankment.
