Shekhar Koirala faction terms NC disciplinary action ‘vindictive’

KATHMANDU: The Shekhar Koirala-led faction of the Nepali Congress has strongly condemned the recent disciplinary actions taken by the party’s central leadership, calling them vindictive and politically motivated.

At a meeting held Thursday morning at Koirala’s contact office in Baluwatar, leaders from his group concluded that the disciplinary measures announced by the Central Disciplinary Committee, led by Anand Prasad Dhungana, were taken unilaterally and in violation of party statute.

The faction resolved to launch a political resistance against the decision and affirmed its commitment to ensure justice for all those penalized, stating it would not allow any of its members to be wrongfully punished.

According to Dinesh Chandra Thapaliya, Koirala’s personal secretary, the group has decided to formally urge party president Sher Bahadur Deuba to halt the ongoing disciplinary proceedings, stating they are not legally or procedurally sound.

Vice President Dhanraj Gurung briefed the meeting, stating that an informal understanding had previously been reached among party president Deuba, vice presidents, and general secretaries to not forward any disciplinary complaints.

Gurung added that Committee Chair Dhungana issued the action unilaterally, without discussion within the committee.

Senior leaders including Vice President Gurung, Joint General Secretary Jeevan Pariyar, and central members Minendra Rijal, Arjun Narsingh KC, Bal Bahadur KC, Sanjay Kumar Gautam, and Sarita Prasai were among those present at the meeting.
