Timure area ravaged as cross-border flood from China wreaks havoc in Rasuwa

RASUWA: A devastating flood that surged across the Nepal–China border has caused extensive destruction in Rasuwa district, severely damaging key infrastructure in the strategically significant Timure customs area.

The flood, which struck early Tuesday morning, originated from the Chinese side and tore through critical facilities along the Rasuwagadhi corridor.

Among the hardest-hit installations are the Timure dry port, the Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Dam, and the customs yard, which lies adjacent to the border point that facilitates bilateral trade between Nepal and China.

The floodwaters also swept away the Friendship Bridge, a symbolic and functional link between the two nations.

According to Nepal Police, 383 personnel have been mobilized for ongoing search and rescue operations. As of Tuesday evening, nine bodies had been recovered while 19 individuals remain missing. Among them are two Nepal Police officers, six Chinese nationals, and eleven civilians. A total of 57 people have been rescued from the affected areas.

The scale of destruction has also extended to transportation and logistics. At least 24 cargo containers, six trucks, and 35 electric vehicles were washed away.

Road access to the customs and hydropower sites from Syabrubesi remains completely severed.

Officials say the full extent of damage to infrastructure vital to trade, energy, and cross-border movement is still being assessed.
