Nepal to bat first against Netherlands, Nandan Yadav handed debut

KATHMANDU: Nepal will bat first against the Netherlands in their ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 match in Scotland, after losing the toss earlier today.

The crucial fixture has been overshadowed by significant injury setbacks for the Nepali team.

All-rounder Gulshan Kumar Jha and bowler Sompal Kami have both been sidelined due to injuries sustained during a practice session for this very match against the Netherlands.

The Nepal Cricket Association (CAN) confirmed their injuries, stating that Sompal has a right-hand injury and Gulshan a knee injury. Both players are confirmed to miss the remainder of the Netherlands series and the upcoming T20I Tri-Series.

In response to these unfortunate developments, CAN has provided opportunities to all-rounder Basir Ahmad and bowler Nandan Yadav, both of whom have found a place in the starting eleven.

Head coach Stuart Law decided to give these two young players a chance following the injuries to Gulshan Kumar Jha and fast bowler Sompal Kami.

Nepal enters this match in seventh place in League 2 with 10 points from 15 games. They have had a mixed performance in the series so far, securing one victory in two matches against Scotland.

Their opponents, the Netherlands, currently sit in second place with 26 points from 22 matches, despite having faced three consecutive defeats recently. The USA leads the table with 28 points from 20 matches.
