National Open Shotokan Karate Competition to be held in Panchkhal



KAVRE: The National Open Shotokan Karate Competition is set to take place in Panchkhal, Kavrepalanchok. Organized by the Nepal Shotokan Karate-Do Association Kavrepalanchok, the event will be held from June 13 to 14.

Organizers said players from at least 14 districts will participate. According to Rammani Kafle, secretary of the organizing committee, around 300 athletes will compete across 25 categories. A total of 96 medals will be awarded, including 24 gold, 24 silver, and 48 bronze.

The men’s official weight categories will include 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65, and 70+ kg, while the women’s categories will include 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, and 65+ kg.

There will also be competitions in men’s single kata (senior), women’s single kata (junior), and women’s single kata (senior).

The district finishing first will receive a cash prize of Rs 10,000 and a trophy. The second and third-placed districts will receive Rs 7,500 and Rs 5,000, respectively, along with trophies.

Chief coach of the Nepal Shotokan Karate-Do Association, Dharjeman Tamang, expressed confidence that the competition will help identify and nurture emerging talent at the district, national, and international levels.
