Seti River Hydropower Project completed

KATHMANDU: The construction of the 25-MW Seti River Hydropower Project, located on the Seti River in Machhapuchhre Rural Municipality and Pokhara Municipal Corporation of Kaski district, has been completed.

The project was officially inaugurated with its power now connected to the Nepal Electricity Authority’s national grid. Vision Lumbini Energy Company Limited, the project’s operating company, organized the inauguration ceremony on Friday.

Construction of the project began in 2077 BS, and the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) began purchasing electricity from the project in 2081 BS.

Since then, the project has consistently produced more electricity than specified in the power purchase agreement, according to the company’s chairman, Jagat Pokharel.

Electricity from the Seti River Hydropower Project is transmitted to the NEA’s national grid through a 132 kV, four-kilometer transmission line to the Lahachok substation.

The project is expected to generate an annual revenue of Rs. 870 million in its first year. It was completed with an investment of approximately Rs. 6 billion, financed through loans from the Employees Provident Fund and the Agricultural Development Bank, with NMB Bank leading the financing.

At the inauguration, Former Finance Minister Dr. Yubaraj Khatiwada, Independent Power Producers Association of Nepal (IPPAN) Chair Ganesh Karki, and others praised Vision Lumbini for setting an exemplary standard in energy production.
