PM directs subordinates to focus production, employment in next budget

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has directed the ministers and secretaries to focus on preparing budget in a way it boost production and increase employment.

Needs and priorities should be taken into account while making budget, he reminded.

PM Oli gave such direction to the subordinates during a discussion on determination of priorities in budget formulation for the next year. The discussion was held at PM’s office, Singha Durbar.

Peace and security, end of corruption and convenient service to people can be realized when there is good governance, he said, adding that appropriate security arrangement with resources is needed to tackle the elements frustrating peace.

The federal government is constitutionally mandated to unveil budget on Jesth 15 in the Lunar Calendar. Before this, priorities and principles of budget are discussed in the parliament. PM held discussion with ministers and secretaries in this regard on Thursday.

The Head of the Government said, “There must not be compromise on issues of good governance. Anyone involved in evading revenue need to be brought to book. When the revenue is collected adequately, we can make sufficient allocation for development works.”

He strongly urged the ministers to end the trend of preparing budget without securing sources. Preparation of budget needs to be fair- no favouratism, according to the PM.

On the occasion, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel said the budget would be prepared based on a standard that discourages scattering budget.

The government was collecting suggestions from the related sectors for it, he added

As per the record shared by the Finance Ministry, the government has been able to collect 55 percent revenue so far, while total spending stands at 52 percent. The capital spending so far in the current fiscal year is 28 percent.
