China Southern Airlines expands flights to boost China-Nepal cooperation

KATHMANDU: China Southern Airlines has announced a major revamp of its flight schedule between Kathmandu and Guangzhou, beginning April 10, in a move aimed at strengthening economic, tourism, and cultural cooperation between China and Nepal.

According to a press release issued by the airline, the optimization comes with the onset of the 2025 summer-autumn flight season and includes the resumption of night flights from Kathmandu to Guangzhou. The nightly departure is scheduled for 11:30 PM, with one flight per day.

The daytime flight schedule has also been adjusted, with the departure time from Kathmandu shifted to 12:50 PM, 50 minutes later than before. These changes are expected to offer greater convenience to passengers and improve overall connectivity.

The frequency of daytime flights will change with the seasons. From April to May, flights will operate four times a week on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Between June and August, the schedule will be reduced to two weekly flights on Sundays and Thursdays. Daily flights will resume from September through October.

China Southern has significantly increased its seat capacity for this route. For the upcoming season, it will offer approximately 45,000 seats from Kathmandu to Guangzhou and over 46,000 seats on the return route, marking a 16.5% increase and a 39.9% increase, respectively, compared to the same period last year.

The expansion aligns with the celebration of the 70th anniversary of China-Nepal diplomatic relations and the “China-Nepal Tourism Year,” further promoting bilateral exchanges and enhancing travel convenience for both business and leisure travelers.
