KATHMANDU: Nepal Police has arrested 5,846 fugitives across the country in the first five months of the current fiscal year.
These individuals had been convicted of various crimes and were evading justice. According to Nepal Police Spokesperson SSP Bishwa Adhikari, the arrests were made as part of a special campaign launched to apprehend individuals avoiding legal accountability.
The highest number of arrests were made in Madhesh Province, where 1,590 fugitives were detained.
The Kathmandu Valley followed with 1,253 arrests, while Koshi Province accounted for 735. In other regions, Bagmati Province reported 265 arrests, Gandaki Province 506, Lumbini Province 1,035, Karnali Province 169, and Sudurpaschim Province 235.
All the arrested individuals have been presented before the courts to serve their pending sentences.
The combined prison sentences of the detained fugitives amount to 1,968 years, nine months, and eight days. Additionally, authorities are seeking fines totaling Rs 430.54 million from those arrested.
SSP Adhikari reiterated the Nepal Police’s commitment to upholding justice and ensuring that convicted individuals cannot evade the legal system.
