NP Saud criticizes NC-UML coalition for neglecting development issues

KATHMANDU: Ruling Nepali Congress leader NP Saud has expressed concerns over the government’s inability to focus on development issues since the formation of the coalition between the Nepali Congress and the UML.

Speaking at a press conference organized by the Nepal Press Union in Nepalgunj on Friday, Saud, also a former foreign minister, criticized the Congress-UML coalition government for its lack of attention to development priorities.

“The government is not able to focus on development issues after becoming permanent,” said Saud, urging the need to define clear development priorities.

He said the government should concentrate on good governance, ending corruption, building development, and amending the constitution, adding that the Nepali Congress is supporting the government for these objectives.

Saud pointed out that the government’s work is being evaluated at various levels and that an internal evaluation will take place within the Nepali Congress party at the right time.

He explained that the Nepali Congress has been actively involved in the government, and the party feels responsible for supporting the government’s progress, while also pressuring it to serve the people.

“We have reached a 7-point agreement when forming the government. It has been six months, and during this period, we have understood what our party members and the people think,” said Saud.

He reiterated that the Nepali Congress is committed to constitutional amendment and called for a national consensus to address the constitution’s shortcomings, emphasizing the need for constitutional corrections.
