Teachers’ and professors’ unions derecognized; minister warns of action for political involvement

Minister for Education, Science and Technology Mahabir Pun has warned teachers, professors, and university employees against engaging in political activities, stating that any such involvement will lead to disciplinary action. In a notice issued on Sunday, Minister Pun said the ministry had received complaints that organizations such as the Teachers’ Federation and Professors’ Association were increasingly participating in political movements, which he said was undermining the quality of education.

Worker injured as Naxal Bhatbhateni building collapses during demolition

A worker was injured on Sunday when parts of the Bhatbhateni departmental store building in Naxal collapsed during demolition work. The store, which had been vandalized and set on fire on September 9, is currently being dismantled. During the process, debris from the damaged structure fell, injuring workers at the site. The injured individuals have been rescued and taken to the hospital for treatment. Police have reached the scene, and traffic movement around the Naxal-Bhatbhateni area has been affected.

Bodies of two missing Indian nationals found buried in snow in Manang

The bodies of two Indian nationals who had gone missing since October 20 have been found buried under snow in Manang. According to the Armed Police Force (APF), the deceased have been identified as 52-year-old Jignesh Kumar Lallubhai Patel and 17-year-old Priyansa Kumari Patel. The two had left Gyalzen Hotel in Ngisyang Rural Municipality–4 on October 20, saying they were heading to visit Maleripa Monastery in ward no. 5. They had been out of contact since then.

Oli accuses Gen-Z movement of pushing the country toward instability

CPN-UML chair KP Sharma Oli has claimed that attempts were made to push the country toward instability under the banner of the Gen-Z movement. Addressing the full meeting of the National Youth Association Nepal in Kathmandu on Sunday, Oli said that efforts were made to form a government and dissolve the House of Representatives unconstitutionally in the name of the movement. He remarked that those who once set the country on fire are now trying to lead it, describing the current situation as unfavorable for the nation. Oli emphasized that such instability should not be allowed to persist for long.

Dr. Govinda KC submits memorandum to PM, demands reversal of past medical education decisions

Medical education reform activist Dr. Govinda KC has urged the government to revoke decisions made in the past under the influence of vested interests. Meeting Prime Minister Sushila Karki at Singha Durbar, Dr. KC claimed that previous governments had increased medical college seats to favor business groups and demanded those decisions be reversed. He was accompanied by former vice-chair of the Medical Education Commission, Shreekrishna Giri, and Prof. Dr. Jagdish Prasad Agrawal. Dr. KC also submitted a 10-point memorandum to the prime minister.

Nepali Communist Party submits documents to Election Commission for party registration

The Nepali Communist Party has submitted the necessary documents to the Election Commission for party registration. On Sunday, party leaders Barshaman Pun, Rajendra Pandey, and Dev Gurung reached the commission and handed over the required papers for the process. According to leader Rajendra Pandey, the delegation submitted the party’s statute, minutes, and manifesto, among other documents. He said that since all requirements have been fulfilled, the party expects to receive its registration certificate soon.

Delegation demands 50 percent women candidates in election law

A delegation including four members of the first Constituent Assembly has demanded that the election law ensure 50 percent women candidates. The team comprising Renu Chand, Dr. Binda Pandey, Amrita Thapamagar, and Sunil Babu Pant met Prime Minister Sushila Karki on Sunday, calling for legal provisions to mandate that half of the candidates under the direct election system be women.

Gold price up by Rs 200 per tola today

The price of gold has seen a slight uptick in the domestic market compared to Friday. According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the price of gold increased by Rs 200 per tola on Sunday, reaching Rs 238,600. On Friday, hallmark gold had been traded at Rs 238,400 per tola.

Dedicated line dispute: PMO orders implementation of agreement

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has directed the implementation of the agreement reached between the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) and the government regarding the ‘Dedicated Line’ dispute. The Prime Minister’s Office has sent a letter to the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, instructing it to implement the agreement. A recent meeting attended by Finance Minister Rameshwor Khanal, Energy Minister Kulman Ghising, Chief Secretary, and in the presence of Prime Minister Sushila Karki, reached a verbal agreement with the Federation.

Voter registration heats up

With just seven days remaining to register for the voter list ahead of the House of Representatives elections on March 5, 2026, the District Election Office in Kathmandu has witnessed enthusiastic public participation. Although minor crowding occurred due to temporary server issues, registrants reported that the process was quick and hassle-free.

Preparations underway to publish Grade 12 supplementary exam results

The National Examination Board (NEB) is preparing to publish the results of the Grade 12 supplementary examination today. According to NEB sources, the results are expected to be published after 4 pm. “The results will be released today if there are no technical issues,” said a board official. The supplementary examination was conducted on September 23 and 24.

Seventeen injured in microbus accident in Gorkha

Seventeen people, including the driver, were injured when a microbus met with an accident at Ghumtimod in Siranchowk Rural Municipality-4, Chorkate, Gorkha. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police and District Police Office Information Officer Rajkumar Shrestha, the microbus (Ba 4 Kha 6043) was traveling from Bhachchek to Abu Khaireni when it lost control and struck a roadside wall.

The newly unified Nepali Communist Party (NCP) has unveiled several key decisions to strengthen internal organization and expand its public outreach efforts. According to a statement issued by party spokesperson Agni Prasad Sapkota, the party’s latest meeting focused on making upcoming programs more systematic, effective, and aligned with long-term organizational goals.

Unified Socialist ‘restructured’, Ghanashyam Bhusal appointed coordinator

The Unified Socialist Party has undergone a reorganization, appointing Ghanashyam Bhusal as its new coordinator. Bhusal previously served as the party’s General Secretary. Although the faction led by Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal and senior leader Jhalanath Khanal merged with the Maoist Centre, Bhusal had opposed the unification move.

One killed, three injured in jeep accident in Ghodaghodi

One person was killed and three others injured when a jeep (Lu 2 Cha 2358) carrying vegetables struck a cyclist along the East-West Highway in Ghodaghodi Municipality-2, Tanakpur, this morning. The deceased, 55-year-old Shankar Dagaura of Bardagoriya Rural Municipality-6, Kota Tulsipur, was taken to Ghodaghodi Hospital after the accident but was pronounced dead by doctors, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police Ramesh Awasthi, Chief of the Sukhad Area Police Office.

Minister Ghising defends electricity import agreement with PTC
