Oli accuses Gen-Z movement of pushing the country toward instability

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML chair KP Sharma Oli has claimed that attempts were made to push the country toward instability under the banner of the Gen-Z movement.

Addressing the full meeting of the National Youth Association Nepal in Kathmandu on Sunday, Oli said that efforts were made to form a government and dissolve the House of Representatives unconstitutionally in the name of the movement.

He remarked that those who once set the country on fire are now trying to lead it, describing the current situation as unfavorable for the nation. Oli emphasized that such instability should not be allowed to persist for long.

Oli added that criminal elements have instilled fear among the public, and it is now the responsibility of the youth to ensure people’s safety.

He alleged that individuals involved in crimes during the Gen-Z movement were identified but not punished. Even when police arrested them with evidence, the government ordered their release, Oli claimed.

Stating that UML would not seek administrative permission for future demonstrations, Oli clarified that the party would take to the streets to defend peace, the constitution, and democracy, not to incite unrest.

He stressed that peaceful protest is a constitutional right that cannot be curtailed by a Chief District Officer’s order, vowing that UML will continue its movement to restore democracy.
