RSP invites applications for Proportional Representation candidates

KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has invited applications from candidates under the Proportional Representation (PR) system for the elections scheduled for March 5, 2026.

According to party spokesperson Manish Jha, the call for candidacies is based on the candidate selection framework presented by Joint General Secretary Bipin Kumar Acharya.

The party has set specific conditions and criteria for aspiring candidates. Applicants must self-declare that they have not misused public office, that their marital status is legally valid, that they have not engaged in behavior such as insulting or exploiting vulnerable groups on the basis of caste or gender, and that their sources of income are transparent.

The RSP has also announced plans to form an audit committee to ensure the candidate selection process is transparent, lawful, and fair.

The party stated that it has made its proportional closed list draft more advanced, scientific, and objective. A closed list of 110 candidates has been prepared based not only on the ethnic clusters specified in the Constitution but also on cluster-based provincial demographic ratios and the proportion of votes the party received in each province during the 2079 general election.

The RSP claims this approach ensures proportional representation across provinces while reflecting each province’s demographic composition.

Incorporating the spirit of youth representation, the RSP has ensured 27 percent representation for candidates aged 40 and below, based on their population ratio. Similarly, 10 percent representation has been reserved for Nepalis returning from abroad, according to spokesperson Jha.
