‘Online system’ to ensure chemical fertilizers reach farmers: Agriculture Minister

PARSA: Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development Dr. Madan Prasad Pariyar has announced plans to establish an online system to distribute government-subsidized chemical fertilizers in a more farmer-friendly manner.

During an inspection of agricultural offices in Parsa and Bara on Saturday, and in separate meetings with farmers, he acknowledged problems in the current fertilizer distribution system and emphasized efforts to make it more efficient and transparent.

“We are working to develop an online system that tracks how much fertilizer each farmer receives. This initiative is expected to be launched soon,” he said, noting that mismanagement by municipalities and distribution partners has previously prevented actual farmers from accessing fertilizers.

Minister Pariyar highlighted that the government purchases chemical fertilizers at high prices but provides them to farmers at subsidized rates, assuring that there will be no shortage of fertilizers this year as experienced in previous years.

He also said that the matter of continuing the Rs 70-per-quintal subsidy for sugarcane farmers has been submitted to the Council of Ministers.

On Saturday, Minister Pariyar checked the availability of chemical fertilizers and salt with the Salt Trading Corporation and the Agricultural Inputs Company Limited Provincial Office in Birgunj. He also interacted with sugarcane farmers in Fattepur, Bara, and Umhanagar Ward No. 8, Jitpur, Simara, as well as fish farmers in Kolhabi, Bara, and banana farmers in Nijgadh.
