KATHMANDU: The Unified Socialist Party has undergone a reorganization, appointing Ghanashyam Bhusal as its new coordinator. Bhusal previously served as the party’s General Secretary.
Although the faction led by Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal and senior leader Jhalanath Khanal merged with the Maoist Centre, Bhusal had opposed the unification move.
According to a party leader, a virtual meeting of 67 central committee members held on Saturday decided to restructure the party and designate Bhusal as coordinator. The meeting also resolved to hold a national gathering in December.
Just a day earlier, Bhusal had reached an understanding to cooperate with former Maoist Centre leader Janardan Sharma and CPN General Secretary Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’.
