NC President Deuba to skip office-bearers’ meeting

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba will not attend the party’s office-bearers’ meeting scheduled for Thursday afternoon.

According to Deuba’s personal secretary Bhanu Deuba, the NC president has decided not to participate in the meeting, which is set to take place at 1 p.m. on Thursday. In his absence, Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka will chair the session.

This would have been Deuba’s first participation in a party meeting since the Gen-Z protest of September 8 and 9, during which he was reportedly assaulted. However, his decision to stay away has reinforced speculation that Deuba is considering a dignified exit from active party leadership.

The Nepali Congress has also called a Central Working Committee meeting for October 12, where key political and organizational issues are expected to be discussed.
