Nepal Army Chief calls for dialogue, urges protesters to seek peaceful resolution

KATHMANDU: Nepal Army Chief General Ashok Raj Sigdel has called on protest leaders to pursue a peaceful resolution through dialogue.

In a video address Tuesday evening, Sigdel said, “It is the shared duty of all to normalize the current difficult situation and safeguard the supreme interests of the nation. I therefore request the suspension of protest programs and urge parties to take the path of dialogue.”

He expressed deep sorrow over damage to public property during the nationwide protests and extended condolences to families of those who lost their lives, while wishing a speedy recovery for the injured.

Sigdel emphasized that maintaining peace, security, and national unity is the responsibility of all Nepalese citizens. “As history has witnessed, the Nepal Army remains committed to the country’s independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, national unity, and the safety of its people,” he said.

He also stressed that protests must not negatively affect national and historical heritage, public and private property, ordinary citizens, or the security of foreign diplomatic missions.

Ending his address, Sigdel called on all citizens to uphold patriotism, social harmony, and unity in moving forward together.
