Shital Niwas set ablaze amid protests

KATHMANDU: Protesters have set fire to Shital Niwas, the official residence of Nepal’s president.

The Gen-Z demonstrators broke through the main gate before torching the building. With this incident, nearly all of the country’s top state institutions have been left in ruins.

President Ram Chandra Paudel was evacuated by the Nepal Army in a helicopter to Shivapuri shortly before the fire.

Earlier, protesters had already set fire to Singha Durbar, the Parliament building, the Supreme Court, the Special Court, the District Court, and the residences and offices of top political leaders.

Despite heavy deployment, security forces were unable to contain the crowds in several parts of the capital.
