Sports Minister Tejulal Chaudhary resigns amid political unrest

KATHMANDU: Minister for Youth and Sports Tejulal Chaudhary has resigned from his post, becoming the second minister from the Shekhar Koirala-led faction of the Nepali Congress to step down in a single day.

The wave of resignations comes after Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala, currently on an official visit to China, reportedly instructed ministers aligned with him to step down in protest of the government’s handling of the Gen-Z protests and its broader governance failures.

Earlier on Tuesday, Agriculture Minister Ramnath Adhikari also tendered his resignation following Koirala’s directive. A meeting among the ministers close to Koirala was convened shortly after, during which Tourism Minister Badri Pandey suggested that the party should have made a collective decision regarding the resignations.

More resignations from the Koirala faction are expected in the coming hours as pressure mounts on the ruling coalition amidst deepening political unrest and public outrage.
