Protesters set President Paudel’s private residence on fire

KATHMANDU: Protesters set fire to the private residence of President Ram Chandra Paudel in Balaju Height, Bohoratar, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-16, amid ongoing nationwide demonstrations.

Locals reported that law enforcement officials fired tear gas and live rounds in an attempt to control the unrest.

Since assuming office, President Paudel has been residing in the official government-provided residence, known as Sheetal Niwas. The private residence in Balaju Height is not his current official residence.

Meanwhile, residents from the Balajuhight, Raniban, and Radhakrishna Mandir areas have spontaneously joined the protests, marching toward the Ring Road. A large contingent from Raniban Water Tank, including children and the elderly, has also participated in the demonstrations.

The protests come in the wake of the government’s crackdown on Monday’s Gen-Z demonstrations, which left 19 people dead and hundreds injured. Demonstrators continue to express anger over the use of force by authorities and are targeting symbols of political authority across the capital.
