KATHMANDU: Demonstrators have begun attacking and vandalizing the homes of prominent political leaders.
In Lalitpur’s Khumaltar area, protesters set fire and threw stones at the residence of former Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Centre) chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal, widely known as ‘Prachanda’. The attack comes amid mounting anger over the deaths of 19 young protesters during Monday’s demonstrations.
The residence of former Home Minister and Nepali Congress leader Ramesh Lekhak in Naikap was also targeted. Lekhak had resigned from his post yesterday, citing moral responsibility for the police crackdown.
Protesters have also attacked the Janpur residence of Raghubir Mahaseth, secretary of the ruling CPN-UML, as part of the escalating unrest.
Currently, demonstrators are gathered near the homes of Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba in Budhanilkantha and Prime Minister and CPN-UML chairman KP Sharma Oli in Balkot, signaling an intensification of the nationwide movement.
