India expresses deep concern over deaths in Nepal’s Gen-Z protests

KATHMANDU: The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has expressed deep concern over the deaths of young protesters during the Gen-Z demonstrations in Nepal.

In a statement released Tuesday, the ministry said it has been closely monitoring the recent developments in the country.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of young lives in Nepal,” the statement read. “Our condolences go out to the families of the deceased, and we wish a speedy recovery for the injured.”

Highlighting the close friendship and neighborhood ties between India and Nepal, the statement insisted all parties to exercise restraint and resolve issues through peaceful dialogue.

The statement also noted that curfew orders have been imposed in Kathmandu and other cities, advising Indian citizens residing in Nepal to remain vigilant and comply with instructions issued by local authorities.

The Gen-Z protests, which began in response to government restrictions on social media and other issues, have so far resulted in 19 deaths and more than 400 injuries following police crackdowns.
