KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Thapa has called on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to resign immediately following the deaths of unarmed youth during Monday’s Gen-Z protests.
Thapa, expressing deep distress over the incident, said he could not sleep through the night, and that the tragic scenes of young lives lost unnecessarily have haunted him.
“I could not sleep the entire night. The whole of Nepal, both inside and outside the country, could not sleep. The cruel sight of innocent youth being killed repeatedly plays before my eyes. The Prime Minister must take responsibility for this repression and step down immediately,” he wrote.
On Tuesday morning, through a Facebook post, Thapa further emphasized that the Nepali Congress should no longer remain a witness or participant in the current circumstances and must withdraw from the government without delay. He also stated that he would push for this decision in the party meeting.
“Nepali Congress cannot and should not remain even a single day as a witness or partner in this situation. The party must immediately exit the government. I will work to have this decision approved in the party meeting,” he added.
