KATHMANDU: Authorities in Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur have imposed sweeping curfew orders on Tuesday following youth-led demonstrations that left 19 people dead the previous day.
The curfews, issued under Section 6(a) of the Local Administration Act restrict all public movement and prohibit gatherings, rallies, demonstrations, meetings, and sit-ins across key urban areas.
In Kathmandu, Chief District Officer Chhabilal Rijal declared an indefinite curfew within the Ring Road area starting from 8:30 am on Tuesday. The order bans all forms of public movement in and out of the designated zone until further notice. Officials said the measure was necessary to maintain law and order and prevent any untoward incidents.
In Lalitpur, Chief District Officer Suman Ghimire announced a curfew from 7:00 am to midnight covering parts of Wards 2, 4, 9, 18, and 25 of Lalitpur Metropolitan City. In the Bhaisepati area, the curfew zone extends from the Bhaisepati–Bungmati road in the east to the CG Housing and Chobhar Galchhi road in the west, with its northern boundary near the Bishnu Devi Temple and its southern limit reaching the slopes toward Itani.
In Sanepa, the restricted zone extends from Sanepa Chowk to Indrayani Temple in the east and the Bagmati Corridor road from Balkhu Bridge to Manmohan Park in the west. At the same time, the northern perimeter follows the Ring Road service lane and the southern border runs from Indrayani Temple down to the Bagmati Corridor. In Chyasal, the boundaries run from the suspension bridge over the Manohara Corridor in the east to Chyasal Stadium in the west, with the Manohara River forming the northern limit and the road to Mal Pokhari marking the southern edge.
In Bhaktapur, the District Administration Office enforced an indefinite curfew beginning at 8:30 am across Madhyapur Thimi, Suryabinayak, and Bhaktapur municipalities. The restricted areas include zones along Jadibuti–Radheradhe–Balkot Nikosera and Pepsi Cola, stretches along the Araniko Highway from Jadibuti to Sanga, Kaushaltar to Balkot Chowk via Rose Village to Chardobato Chowk, Radheradhe Chowk to Nikosera Chowk, Bakhabazar to Chardobato Chowk via Nepal-Korea Friendship Hospital, Sallaghari to Nagarkot via Kamalbinayak and Kharipati, Chyamasingh to Nala via Tathali, Duwakot Mode to Nepal Engineering College, and Dekocha to Changu Narayan temple.
Authorities in all three districts described the curfews as precautionary measures aimed at maintaining peace and security amid ongoing unrest. Security personnel, including the Nepal Army, Armed Police Force, and Nepal Police, have been deployed in sensitive areas, reinforcing barricades and monitoring public spaces.
