RPP leader arrested for alleged role in instigating violence during Gen-Z protest

KATHMANDU: Police have arrested Ravi Kiran Hamal, a central committee member of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), on charges of infiltrating the youth-led Gen-Z freedom movement.

According to family members, Hamal was taken into custody on Monday evening in Budhanilkantha after joining protests earlier in the day at Baneshwor.

Hamal, known as a royalist and a prominent youth leader within the RPP, had also participated in earlier pro-monarchy demonstrations. A video circulating on TikTok showed him urging Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to surrender.

In another leaked clip, Hamal said he was ready to take responsibility for any damage caused during the protests and claimed that, as a student of political science, he was capable of serving as the country’s executive head.

Hamal’s younger brother told Khabarhub that while his sibling was an RPP leader, his involvement in the movement stemmed from his identity as part of the Gen-Z generation. “Despite being an RPP central member, he joined the protests as a youth. But police arrested him from Budhanilkantha last night,” he said.
