Rain likely in Koshi and Madhes provinces

KATHMANDU: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology’s Weather Forecasting Division has reported that the monsoon’s low-pressure trough is currently situated south of the average position in western Nepal and near the average line in the eastern region.

This afternoon, skies are expected to remain generally cloudy over the hilly regions, including Koshi and Madhes Provinces, while the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy conditions.

The Division has forecast moderate rainfall in some areas of the hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki Provinces, as well as in various parts of the Terai and hilly areas of Madhes Province. Isolated heavy rainfall is also likely in one or two places within the hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki.

Tonight, the entire country is expected to experience generally cloudy skies. Moderate rain is likely in parts of the hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki Provinces, as well as in other hilly and Terai regions. One or two places in the hilly areas of these provinces may witness heavy rain.

The Weather Forecasting Division has issued a public advisory, urging people to remain alert and take necessary precautions. Due to the forecasted rainfall, there is a heightened risk of landslides and debris flows, particularly in hilly areas.

Additionally, water levels in both small and large rivers and streams may rise, potentially disrupting transportation and local infrastructure.
