Opposition protest halts Madhesh Provincial Assembly for fourth consecutive day

JANAKPURDHAM: The Madhesh Provincial Assembly meeting was once again disrupted today, marking the fourth consecutive day of obstruction due to continued protests from opposition parties.

The disruption was led by Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Nepal, the main opposition party, alongside CPN (Maoist Centre), CPN (Unified Socialist), Federal Socialist Party, Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal, and Nagarik Unmukti Party, all of whom have voiced dissatisfaction with the recently presented provincial budget.

At the outset of the session, JSP’s chief whip Ram Ashish Yadav reiterated that the assembly would not be allowed to proceed unless the government revises the budget, which he claimed is unequal and influenced by middlemen.

Citing widespread dissatisfaction, the opposition has been demanding a complete redrafting of the budget. In light of the ongoing deadlock, today’s session was postponed until 1 PM Thursday.

The prolonged stalemate has raised concerns about governance paralysis in the province as critical discussions on budget allocations remain stalled.
