Water level crosses alert mark in Gaurighat, Guheshwori; authorities urge caution

KATHMANDU: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, Flood Forecasting Division, has stated that the water level in the Bagmati River has crossed the alert level in the Gaurighat and Guheshwori areas.

Continuous rainfall since around midnight on Tuesday led to the water level surpassing the alert threshold by 2:00 PM on Wednesday.

As a precaution, emergency alerts have been sent via mobile phones to residents in Gaurighat, Guheshwori, Chabahil, Nayabasti, and Jorpati, according to engineer Ashish Bhatta of the Flood Division.

The water level in Rudramati (Dhobikhola), particularly in the Kapan area, is also nearing the alert level.

The Department has urged residents to remain vigilant, noting that rainfall has been ongoing in most parts of the Kathmandu Valley at a steady rate of approximately 25 millimeters per hour since midnight.
