Former Nepal Bank chair accused of taking Rs 1.9 million bribe via Indian middleman

KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption case against Dr. Chandra Bahadur Adhikari, the former chair of Nepal Bank Limited’s Board of Directors.

According to the CIAA, Adhikari allegedly accepted a Rs 1.9 million bribe in exchange for facilitating a loan process for the Radisson Project under Bhusal Hospitality, located in Belahiya, Siddharthanagar-1 of Rupandehi district.

The bribe was reportedly routed through an Indian national identified as “Lucky” alias Khus Nasib Ansari, as per the charge sheet submitted to the Special Court on Monday.

The investigation revealed that Adhikari played a key role in helping Bhusal Hospitality secure a loan of Rs 1.77 billion from Nepal Bank Limited. In return, he allegedly received the bribe amount.

Alongside Adhikari, the CIAA has also filed charges against Bhusal Hospitality promoters Bal Krishna Bhusal, Ankit Bhusal, and Amrit Bhusal, accusing them of paying the bribe to facilitate the loan process.
