OKHALDHUNGA: Sunkoshi Rural Municipality in Okhaldhunga honored senior citizens during a municipal-level public hearing event held on Sunday.
Alongside the public hearing, the municipality recognized senior citizens, students, and schools that achieved outstanding results.
Chief Administrative Officer Ram Kumar Karki said that 480 senior citizens aged 80 and above from all 10 wards were honored with gifts including blankets, electric jugs, and thermoses.
Similarly, students who won gold, silver, and bronze medals in the district-level President’s Running Shield competition were awarded cash prizes and certificates of appreciation.
Gold medal winners received Rs. 2,000, silver medalists received Rs. 1,500, and bronze medalists received Rs. 1,000. A total of 31 participants from the municipality secured gold medals, 12 won silver, and three received bronze.
Students who achieved excellent GPAs in the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) over the past two fiscal years were also honored.
Five students who earned top GPAs in the fiscal years 2079–080 and 2080–081 received certificates and a cash prize of Rs. 5,000 each.
In addition, three schools that recorded a 100% pass rate in the SEE for fiscal year 2080–081 were recognized. Sunkoshi Secondary School (Balkhu Gowda), Arubhanjyang Secondary School (Balkhu), and Panchakanya Secondary School (Sisneri) were awarded certificates of appreciation and Rs. 20,000 each, according to Education Branch Chief Bibek Tamang.
Municipality Chairman Kamal Tamang said the honors aim to improve the quality of education and boost the morale of both students and schools by providing encouragement and recognition.
