Blooming jacarandas adorn Ring Road in Lalitpur

LALITPUR: A stretch of the Ring Road along Lalitpur Metropolitan City-14 has transformed into a vibrant corridor of lavender hues, thanks to the blooming jacaranda trees that line the area.

The mesmerizing blossoms have captivated pedestrians and motorists alike, turning the roadway into a visual treat.

The picturesque scene has become a popular backdrop for selfies, photos, and videos—especially among the younger generation. The canopy of purple flowers not only enhances the beauty of the area but also offers a sense of calm and relief in the spring warmth.

Ward Chair of Lalitpur-14, Amrit Mahat, expressed joy over the public’s appreciation of the floral display. “It’s heartwarming to see people connect with nature in this way and enjoy the aesthetic charm of the jacarandas,” he said.

The jacaranda trees are believed to have been introduced to Kathmandu during the Rana regime, with some mature specimens still standing tall along the Chakrapath circuit. While some trees are in full bloom, others are just beginning to flower, adding layers of color and growth to the roadside.

The local government has been actively working to preserve these trees and other greenery along the road, recognizing both their environmental and aesthetic value. The jacarandas also offer much-needed shade to pedestrians, creating a cool and inviting atmosphere.

Nirmal Lama, a passerby who paused to admire the flowers, shared his impression: “It’s refreshing to see such natural beauty amidst the urban hustle.”
