HURPES demonstrates outside Pakistan Embassy and Indian Embassy; urges India and Pakistan to end hostilities

KATHMANDU: The Human Rights and Peace Society (HURPES) staged a protest in front of the Pakistani Embassy in Kathmandu on Friday, condemning a recent terrorist attack in India and urging both India and Pakistan to abandon the path of war and embrace peace.

Led by prominent human rights activist Krishna Pahadi, the demonstration called for immediate de-escalation of tensions between the two South Asian nations following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India, which claimed 26 lives, including that of a Nepali national.

“The killing of 26 innocent people, including a Nepali citizen, by terrorists in Pahalgam is a heinous crime against humanity. Action must be taken against any individuals or organizations involved in such terrorist acts,” the HURPES said in a statement.

The Society stressed that war is never a solution. “In war, everyone suffers. In peace, everyone prospers. No one truly wins in war—only humanity loses,” the statement read.

“There is no alternative to peace. We continue our decades-long campaign to declare South Asia a war-free zone and to promote peaceful coexistence.”

Expressing concern over the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, HURPES warned that the conflict threatens not only South Asia but global peace as well. “We respectfully urge both governments to defuse the tension, end hostilities, and take concrete steps toward lasting peace,” it said.
