Durga Prasai granted bail on the same day as Lamichhane

KATHMANDU: Kathmandu District Court has ordered the release of controversial medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai on bail of Rs 300,000.

Following a detention hearing on Thursday, Judge Thakur Prasad Kharel ruled in favor of granting Prasai bail.

A case against Prasai was filed on January 8, alleging criminal extortion by threatening a Nepali businessman using the name of notorious Indian gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.

The District Government Attorney’s Office in Kathmandu had charged Prasai and three of his associates with organized criminal extortion.

Alongside Prasai, the court has also ordered the release of Hari Chandra Phuyal from Panchthar and Ram Chandra Mainali from Tehrathum, both named as co-defendants in the case.
