Claims and objections to voter list open until December 12

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission of Nepal has decided to conduct a voter list update program. In a notice issued today, the Commission has requested citizens to correct errors, provide information, and register complaints online until December 12.

Commission spokesperson and Joint Secretary Narayan Prasad Bhattarai said that voter details collected nationwide up to August 21 will be processed for updating.

For the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5, individuals who complete 18 years of age by March 4 will be considered eligible voters. Under the voter list update (claims and objections) program, the collected voter details will be published on the Election Commission’s website.

After the voter list is made public, voters will be able to submit applications to correct errors in their name, address, or other personal details through December 12, as stated in the notice.

Complaints can be lodged if someone has been registered in the voter list using false information. If a person’s name appears in more than one place, the Commission has requested that only one location be retained. The public has also been asked to inform the Commission to remove the names of deceased persons or those who have renounced their citizenship.

After completing all claim and objection procedures, the Commission plans to publish the final voter list.

To improve convenience in selecting voting centers, the Commission has also reviewed certain polling stations. Voters can now apply online to choose a convenient polling location within their ward.

The Commission has appealed to voters and stakeholders to actively participate to make the voter list more accurate, reliable, and error-free.
