114 political parties to contest March 5 House of Representatives election



KATHMANDU: A total of 114 political parties are set to participate in the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5, 2026, according to the Election Commission (EC).

Of the 143 parties registered with the Commission, 120 applied for election purposes, and 114 have been approved to contest the polls.

EC spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai said 102 parties will contest with individual election symbols, while 12 parties will run under joint symbols. Based on these applications, the Commission has allocated 107 unique election symbols for the upcoming polls.

Among the symbols, the first four on the list are: the Sun, Tree, Star, and Bell. Other symbols include the Plough, Tilted Umbrella, Loudspeaker, Flat-Bottomed Tray, Bicycle, Madal, Glass, Walking Stick, Open Eye, Deer, and Two Hands Folded in Namaste.

The Election Commission has stated that the symbols have been finalized in accordance with the law and will be used by political parties across the country in the upcoming polls.
