KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has said that the Gen-Z movement has drawn a red line for good governance in Nepal, marking a decisive turning point for accountability and reform.
Addressing the National Economic Dialogue 2.0 organized by the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) on Friday, Prime Minister Karki assured that the government would leave no stone unturned in addressing the challenges faced by entrepreneurs and businesspersons.
“This movement was aimed at reforming all sectors, economic, social, and political,” she said. “The government will not falter in ensuring the rule of law and the safety of ordinary citizens and entrepreneurs. The unruly groups that harassed honest businesspersons after the movement are unacceptable to the government. We have a clear plan to tackle these challenges.”
She added that the government will work to correct distorted narratives against the business community and curb corruption operating under political cover. “The country’s economy cannot recover unless the morale of the private sector is restored,” she emphasized, calling for immediate measures to rebuild business confidence.
Highlighting the vital role of the private sector, Karki said, “Entrepreneurs not only pay taxes but also fulfill national responsibilities such as creating employment and supporting social security. The country cannot function without business.”
She stressed that it is the government’s duty to ensure a secure environment for investors, entrepreneurs, and professionals. “All government agencies are working toward strengthening that sense of security, and it will gradually expand,” she said.
Prime Minister Karki also urged the private sector to actively participate in ensuring free and fair elections, assuring businesspersons that the government stands firmly with them as they move forward with confidence.
