KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development has initiated the process of collecting data on the losses and damages caused to the agriculture and livestock sectors across the country due to recent heavy rainfall.
According to the Ministry, its subordinate offices have been directed to gather preliminary damage reports from all seven provinces and submit them for central analysis.
Information Officer Mahananda Joshi stated that the collected data will include information on flood-affected crops, quantity of damaged agricultural produce, loss of livestock, damage to animal sheds, and the overall situation of affected farmers.
Provincial agriculture offices will coordinate with local governments to ensure accurate and comprehensive data collection. Based on the assessment, the Ministry plans to provide relief and support to affected farmers in proportion to their reported losses.
Joshi added that the data will also be used to formulate a long-term, evidence-based plan for disaster risk reduction and mitigation in the agriculture sector.
