Nepal Police, Armed Police Force on high alert nationwide after Gen-Z protest turns violent

KATHMANDU: With the Gen-Z protests turning increasingly violent since Monday, both the Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force (APF) have directed all personnel across the country to remain on high alert in full field gear.

According to security sources, internal circulars have been issued by the headquarters of both forces, instructing units nationwide to stay prepared for immediate deployment as the movement shows no sign of abating.

The APF headquarters in Halchowk, under Inspector General Raju Aryal, instructed all units to remain in standby position at their respective bases, ready to mobilize without delay. Similarly, Nepal Police headquarters in Naxal circulated directives to its district units to maintain readiness.

The move comes after Monday’s clashes around the Parliament building in Kathmandu left at least 14 people dead and dozens injured. Security agencies fear the protests will continue in the coming days.

Meanwhile, the Nepal Army has also been deployed in several sensitive areas of Kathmandu, including the Parliament complex, to support police and paramilitary forces in maintaining order.
